Error States for IBM Security

IBM Design - Error States (UX and Visual Design)

When I first applied for the design team at the Cyber Security unit at IBM, I got first interviewed for a UX research position. But when I submitted the challenge they required as part of the application process, Haidy Francis, the executive for the cyber security design team liked my graphic skills so she asked me if I wanted to take a UX and Visual Design position instead. I was happy to be able to have a more hands-on opportunity. During my experience, I worked in three main projects, together with more senior visual designers, UX designers, and developers.

As a first project, I had to solve the appearance of clear communication when a the user tries to run a query and there is a system error. In order to do this, with the help of Paula Le and Jimmy Dyer, we ran user interviews, developed the user flows, wireframes (called low resolution screens at the company), designed the high resolution screens following IBM design language, and generated working prototypes.

It was a great starting project as I was new to the tools they use (Sketch, the IBM Design Language & Library, and Flinto). It allowed me to have independence at a low pace, to be able to gain a good level of mastery of the tools.

Tools: Sketch, Flinto, Adobe Illustrator and Github Enterprise.

Methodologies: Design Thinking (user journey mapping, brainstorming, user interviews, low and high resolution prototyping, etc) and Agile methodology.
